JAMES DIXON
BIOGRAPHY
One of the first members to join Lions in 2010. Aged just 15, James was a quiet, and well mannered youngster with a passion for Martial Arts.
He would soon become part of the family at Lions, training every evening after school, either in the gym or on the mats. Inspired by the achievements of his coaches, James’ passion for Martial Arts was developing into an ambition to compete at the highest level. At 17, despite the advice of family, friends and team at Lions, James made the decision to leave college and pursue the goal of being a full time professional MMA fighter.
James was offered a part time position at Lions, with the opportunity of work based study. He was able to increase his training and gain qualifications within the sports industry. His increased training in Martial Arts also meant he was learning at a faster rate, competing regularly in BJJ competitions and making his first amateur appearances in Kickboxing and MMA.
Today, James is an accomplished Martial Arts practitioner with an undefeated amateur MMA record and 3 British Titles. He has also competed and won number our BJJ regional titles and was recently awarded his Brown Belt under Prof. Wesley Trevelyan.
James’ constant desire to improve and seek out new skills has enabled him to gain a well rounded knowledge of Mixed Martial Arts. His passion to share this knowledge and see his students improve, has led him to become a key member of the coaching team here at Lions.

COACH INTERVIEW
When did you start training in martial arts?
From a young age I’ve always been interested in sports and competition but it wasn’t until I was 15 years old that I stumbled upon MMA, as soon as I seen it on TV I was mesmerised and knew it was something I wanted to pursue. After a year of training at a few local martial arts gyms I finally came across Lions Gym which has been my home ever since.
What disciplines have you trained in?
Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing / Muay Thai and Freestyle / Greco Roman Wrestling.
How often do you train when not preparing for a fight and what changes during a fight camp?
When not preparing for a fight I train twice a day, 6 days a week. Training consists of technique, sparring and strength and conditioning. The main change when preparing for a fight is training intensity and diet.
Favourite technique?
Heel Hook.
What does it mean for you to compete/fight professionally?
Competing in Martial Arts has embodied my life from a young age. To fight professionally has been a long time dream of mine that I’m still passionately pursuing to this day.
What would you consider to be your biggest achievement in the sport so far?
Winning the Fight UK MMA Featherweight Title.
How long have you been teaching martial arts and what made you want to become an Instructor?
I’ve been teaching for nearly two years now. For me teaching was the next step in my journey. I love seeing people improve and reach their goals; to be a part of that is a great feeling.
Lastly, do you have any heroes?
My Dad.
