The most recent addition to the coaching team at Lions. We are delighted to now offer Muay Thai classes with the multiple world champion, Dean James.

As a Fighter, they don’t come much more inspirational than Dean. A role model in every sense, Dean has overcome adversity in all its forms to rise to the top of professional combat sports. Diagnosed with life-threatening colon cancer at the age of nineteen, Dean not only defied doctors’ advice by participating in combat sport, he went on to become the best British Bantamweight and Featherweight in the art of Muay Thai, winning three world championships at three different weight divisions.

Regarded as one of the most technically able fighters in the sport, Dean secured the UK no.1 Featherweight spot in 2010 with a win over Andy Howson and has remained top of his division since.
To date, Dean has recorded notable wins over highly decorated international fighters including Rungravee Sasiprapa (Thailand), Dimity Varats (Belarus) and French Muay Thai star Amine Kacem and continues to fight the world’s elite in Muay Thai.

As a coach, it was during Dean’s recovery period that he spent observing his long term mentor and coach Tony Myers. Memorising every move he made, this period ultimately shaped the strategic fight philosophy Dean uses today and relays to his students. Combined with his career teaching Physical Education and Art to children and teens in central Birmingham, Dean possesses all the key ingredients, making him one of the most sought after coaches in the sport today.
